If you were serious about actually having a real ant issue and want something pet-safe, I agree with Ivory- try ground cinnamon. We used it when i was growing up, out in the country. we would sprinkle it into the carpeting along the outer walls and around outside door frames and thresholds. It always worked amazingly well for us, and the smell wasn't bad either. Aw, that was too cute of an idea, I may be snagging it to tell you the truth.
