Because We Planned on Speeding
Travel, food September 21st, 2008Yeah, that’s right. We buckled up our takeout food. Got a problem with that?
First person to correctly guess what comprised our precious cargo gets a Junk Drawer magnet. Hint: There was a protein (x6) and a side (x2).
To those who were following me on Twitter two hours ago, we never got the ice cream.
Stumble it!

Well, I know it’s not Chinese food, because there’s no such thing as a side dish in that cuisine! So, I’ll go along with the chicken and sides.
But I have to say, that bag takes me back to my drinking days when I would buckle my bottle in so it wouldn’t hit the floor if I had to stop quick on the way home from the liquor store.
Besides, with the way food prices are climbing we all might want to consider the services of an armored car company to get food home from the grocery store or restaurant.

I have no idea-I NEVER get take out. I bet it’s been 20 years since I went to takeout anything. I am always afraid they will screw up my order-and there isn’t much vegetarian stuff locally to take out anyways (except Subway) and they always put mayo on mine, so I stopped going. Hope you enjoyed it-potatoe perogies sounds good, but mid Michigan redneck area won’t have anything other than fried yuck anyways.

EVERYONE: We have a winner! Poetikat guessed correctly that the bag contained six cheeseburgers and two orders of pierogies. I’ll contact you to arrange delivery of your magnet. Congratulations Kat!
Joe — Tuna with bacon? Do they make such a thing? Good guess, though. I would have guessed Wawa myself.
Carol — I did want fried chicken yesterday, but Dave won out with the burgers.
Poetikat — They weren’t from Village Pizza, but you did guess the contents correctly! Congratulations! Ah, and you remembered my problem! Good for you!
Lee — Plus it probably wouldn’t fit in the bag. Whenever we get Chinese, we come home with gigantic styrofoam containers and half the sauce leaks out. Our bag was so stuffed and heavy we were afraid it would slam into the front seat. And then we’d cry. And you’re right about food prices. I freaked when we paid over $30 for two pizzas and breadsticks the other day. Geesh.
Amber — We thought so too. Doesn’t our little Baggy look so tucked in and cute?
Babs beetle — Maybe I should have made the prize something else I’ve forgotten how many magnets are already floating around. It was a smart guess with bacon, though. Ah, and you remembered the garlic knot. I’m impressed!
Sheila Sultani — No, but man, does that sound good right about now. Yeah, I know. It’s only 6AM, but I could do it.
Lori — Good guess and half-right!
Swubird — Um. I think I’m gonna need a translation on that one. As for the Twinkies, I have my standards. I’m afraid of those things.
regan — No, but yum!
Chris — Would you believe I’ve never eaten a wing? I think it’s because I’m afraid half of it will wind up on my shirt. You were half right, though. We love our pierogies!
Shadowsrider — It’s funny you said miniburgers. They were full-sized, but kinda smooshed. All six, plus the pierogies, fit neatly in the bag and it was heavy as all get out. We’re glad to know we’re not the only ones who’ve ever belted their food!
Jenny — Oh, man. Now I want me some garlic knots. Mmmmm… my mouth is watering. Already looking forward to dinner, which is not a good sign at 6AM, eh?
Lauren — Oh, yes, my dear. Cheese (like bacon) is almost a requirement. A hamburger always wants to be cloaked in a blanket of cheese!
StephanieC — It also helps to keep it tucked in the back so I don’t have to hold it in my lap and risk eating half of it on the way home. Or holding it between my feet on the floor. Gross!
Monique — So we’re not the only crazy ones! The picture still cracks me up, though. Can you imagine if a cop pulled us over? “What’cha got there?” The conversation would only go downhill.
JanScholl — Oh, wow. That’s some kind of record. You’re probably better off anyway if you’re vegetarian. For the record, those were the best pierogies anywhere! Deep fried and DEE-LISH!
Bagsmerchant — The food was grateful. Until we ate it.
chatblanc — No, but WOW, does that ever sound like a meal. My mouth is watering. Yeah, I’d eat it.
kouji — Isn’t it? Thought about drawing a face on it, but it looks cute the way it is, doesn’t it?
Daisy the Curly Cat — Awwww. Baby back ribs! Good guess, but nope. There’s something else I’ve never eaten. Again, half of the sauce would wind up on me!

Data Entry — No fish and chips, but I did just recently re-discover Long John’s Silvers fast food. Surprisingly good, although sometimes they over-fry the fish and it winds up a puddle of grease.
Chris — I had White Castles once, but they were from the frozen food section at my store. Really gross, actually. I know I need to try them at a real White Castle establishment, but I don’t know where to find one. Jersey?
JD at I Do Things — Yep, you’re right. They were from Richard’s Drive-In, affectionately known in town as Greasy Dick’s. I’m just a tad embarrassed that everyone seems to know my food likes and dislikes.
Ken Armstrong — “Clunk click.” Hilarious!
Jenn — You would think bacon, wouldn’t you? I should have a whole category labeled BACON in my sidebar, eh? I’m dying young, too. With a smile on my face.
Bucky — Hey, precious cargo, right?
PaulsHealthBlog — Whatta whatta?
paunchiness — Nope. Six burgers and two orders pierogies. Someday I want an “In and Out” burger. They’re only on the west coast U.S., right?
manilenya — A bag of food is a terrible thing to waste!
Sherry Martschink — Some day I’ll learn to spell your name without looking. See above for answer (Poetikat won!) Thank you for the award. They go so nice with cheeseburgers.
Lori — Wawa would have been a smart guess. You know, I haven’t had a Wawa BLT in over two weeks. It’s time.
Lauren — Holy crap! That guy looks like Manson! Can you imagine?! I feel kinda bad for him, since he has mental health problems. But man. Waking up to find a cheese-eating stranger in your kid’s bed?
Jay — Oh, what is that???? Whatever it is and whatever they sell, I want ‘em!
Sugee — Oh, you just reminded me. Some day I’ll have one of those cargo nets installed in my car trunk. I hate when my groceries go flying all over. I want one for Christmas. Dave? Are you reading these comments?
Jamie Sue — Nope, but I had a hankering for some a couple days ago. Good ‘ol KFC. Their sides are killer, too.
Babs beetle — I’m embarrassed to say they were only for Dave and me. He wound up having 4 over two days and I had two that night. I’ve eaten worse than that, sister. It ain’t pretty.

Alan — We was my husband and me. For the record, he ate four, I ate two. Mmmm, coconut donut! Heavenly!
Mama O — Oh, baby! Kraut and farmer’s cheese? Is there any cheese butterier than that? Mouth watering again. I gotta stop blogging about food. It can’t help my situation.

I guess I stopped by too late to play the game but what fun! I have never buckled up my food but come to think of it I probably should. I was in a fender bender a few years ago after leaving Taco Bell in which bean burrito ended up splattered across the front of the car- and to think moments before the accident I actually put my arm up to try and protect my food and keep the contents from flying across the vehicle. Ahhh, too little, too late. I like to think that I would also protect small children and animals the way I protect my Taco Bell bean burritos.

Singular Girl — Kids, pets and burritos should always be buckled up! You reminded me of a story a co-worker told me. She once took a loaded crock pot full of barbecue to a family picnic. She had to stop suddenly for a pedestrian and the pot went flying and so did the contents. When she got to the picnic, someone brought a shovel to the car and that’s how they got most of it out. What a mess!
Ian — Shannon, who commented after you, gave me the link to that story. I am constantly amazed at the stupidity that walks among us. Cripes almighty.
Shannon — Thanks for the link. Simply incredible.
Jeff — I rode in a friend’s minivan once. She has three kids. She had enough food on the floor for an entire meal. My sympathies.
Swubird — Thanks for the clarification. Never heard of RELOAD. I don’t know how they can sell that stuff. I know it’s popular with the kids. Me? I’d have either a panic attack, heart attack, or both, if I drank that.
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids — Pierogies are available as a side dish order in many hamburger and hot dog joints, right along with french fries. You’ll have that in Pennsylvania Dutch country. But if they sell Mrs. T’s in your freezer section, buy ‘em, boil ‘em, and fry ‘em in butter. They’re the best kind if you have to buy from the grocery store.
Mike — Learned something new today. A shawarma sounds like a gyro (and a lot healthier than a cheeseburger). I’m hungry. Glad it’s dinnertime!

Kat — Oh, yeah. CAKE! I gotta remember that. Usually I put it on the floor if it fits. But the seat is even better. Lock it down, baby!
BK — I really need to get myself one of those cargo nets for my trunk so groceries don’t go flying around. I asked my dealer once about installing it and they would have needed my car too long. Maybe my next car. I’m lazy.
Ricardo Bueno — I’m not alone! Yea!
Mike Foster — Time was of the essence. The greasy spoon we got it from was probably a dozen miles away. No fried chicken, but with so many people guessing that, now I want some. (It was cheeseburgers and pierogies, for the record).

That is great. We usually put ours on the floor and I keep it in between my feet while the boyfriend drives or right on my lap, but then we run into the problem where some of the food will be gone by the time we actually get home.

brooke — Suggest to your parents they use the seat belt and then you won’t have a potential grease splat in your lap.
Holly — Oh, yeah. I’m real familiar with the “food will be gone” problem. That’s another reason why it should be buckled up in the back seat. I can’t be trusted with warm, mouth-watering food on my lap.
