I Think I’m Doing It Wrong
embarrassing, food October 26th, 2008I’m pretty sure when you do the Weight Watchers thing you’re not supposed to eat this many in a day and a half, even if they are only 2 points each.

I thought when I went vegetarian and started working out that I would drop a few pounds. I never realized how many empty calories I imbibe through a few glasses of champagne, a few vodka tonics… of course it’s the only thing that makes my evening work events bearable (don’t worry, they allow us to drink, I’m not sneaking liquor in a flask or anything). It just turns out that those empty calories don’t slip off my hips as easily as they once did.

Regan — And therein lies the problem. They taste like 4 points, easily!
Ken Armstrong — Better luck next post! Practice your trigger finger.
maggie — Oh, is that it? Hey, send me all your other tricks. I need help!
Daisy the Curly Cat — I love a good choc-covered pretzel. They’re like chips! You can’t eat just one.
JD at I Do Things — Har! Well, they have chocolate crumbly things sprinkled all over the outside and it’s chocolate ice cream on the inside. I just got back from the store and couldn’t find the Slim-a-Bears. I think you’re making it up. SPRINKLES!
Angela — Oh, thank you for helping me look at the bright side. God, did you ever really look at the nutritional label on Ben & Jerry’s? That stuff is poison.
Chris (Casey) — I’m amazed you had bypass. I always wonder how people can be so careful afterwards. It’s a struggle no matter what, eh? And thanks, but that picture is old. I will only put up a current picture when I’ve lost 20lbs. (And I want to lose more than that. Ugh)
Galdalf and Grayson — If I snuck into your fridge, you would have zero left. I eat them like they’re going out of style.
Woman Tribune — OK, you got me. Here’s what happens. Sometimes I take one out and toss the wrapper immediately. Some I take to the couch in the wrapper. On Saturday, I went around the living room and kitchen and collected all the ones that hadn’t been thrown out. Three wrappers, five sticks. One sad woman.
Babs beetle — We are sisters of the ice cream.
Jaffer — Holy cow. That sounds delicious. What’d ya go and say that for? Hey, at least I exercised today by mowing the lawn. Does that mean I can have an extra two on top of the two I’ve already eaten today?
Singular Girl — I’ve always thought going vegetarian would help me, too. But I can’t give up beef and chicken. I don’t drink, but I do eat ice cream. Same difference.
Lauren — About right for weight loss, or about right for ruining things?
Preston — See, that’s exactly the problem. I think they’re “safe” so I eat too many. I’m at least pretty good during the work week. I lose my mind on the weekends. Glad you like the kitty whiskers. Babs Beetle made that up for me and I love it, too!
Stephanie C — Thanks for making me feel better. Boy, you guys are great! I promise I’ll try to do better.
Jay — It’s something about knowing they only carry a point value of 2. Maybe if they were a 3, I wouldn’t eat so many. I’m all about the numbers.
Nicole — What I need to do is go a whole day without ONE! Then I won’t start the cycle of one after another. It’s vicious!
The Fitness Diva — I wish we never found them. Then I’d eat an apple or grapes or something instead. But now that I know about them, I don’t know what I’m going to do.
fragileheart — The picture is 4 years old and I’ve put on some weight since then (mostly due to blogging - all that sitting). I really have to crack that whip. I hate being this weight! Kathy so sad.

This is exactly why I cannot buy those 100-calorie packs of whatever…Oreo wafers, Cheez-Its, Chips Ahoy, what-have-you…I justify that because they’re only 100 calories, I can eat 5 packs. Which totally defeats the purpose.

Ooh, that’s completely understandable–those chocolate ice cream / cookie crumb ones are delicious! I used to eat a box a week, but I noticed that I was starting to lose my willpower and eat more than one at a time. So, I gave them up and switched to sugar-free pudding. It’s not tasty enough to tempt me into eating more than one. (And it’s only one point per serving!)

The important thing is calories. If that was all you ate in a day and a half you’d be ok. I said before i am dieting and this time its the hard way…counting every calories, those bars (at least the ones in my freezer) atr 90 calories and like 1 gram of fat. But i know how easy it is to eat like 5 of em!! Just gotta skip dinner when you do

You’re counting points, not ice cream bars right. As long as your point totals don’t exceed your daily allowance you’re in good shape. BUT…since you didn’t show the rest of the day’s menu, and there’s more than a little guilt hinted at in this post, I’m guessing there’s more to the story. Hmmmmmm?

I prefer healthy snacks, like apples. Last night I went to the Washington International Horse show and had one of those apples they sell there…huge green apples with about 1/2 inch coating of caramel, the another 1/2 inch of chocolate, the rolled in something (mine was non-pariels, they also had coconut, nuts, M^M’s…etc) It was approximately 1.5 pounds of candy and apple and cost $14. I’m still on the sugar high.
But it was an APPLE, so it was healthy, right?
I did go ride my horse today, and work some of it off.

Kelly — I’ve done Nutrisystem twice in my life. The first time I was very successful because I did it by the book. The second time I was grossed out by the food and feeling deprived. I’m not good with portion control (obviously).
Jaffer — Problem is, mowing the lawn may be the most exercise I get all week. At least I’ll be better with my points. The weekends are always hardest for me. Hey, I’m not seeing the Ronald the Mime picture! What gives?
Angi — Yep. That’s exactly my problem. I think I need to quit the ice cream cold turkey. Clearly, I can’t manage my intake.
Joe — I could probably build a house of sticks had I saved them all since I started inhaling them. Sad, I know.
Diana — I think that’s it. No more. I have to lay down a new rule. No more Weight Watchers yummies. Or at least I need to buy something I don’t love as much.
absepa — Exactly. That’s what I’m going to do. Maybe I’ll even force myself to eat fruit instead. I’ve already gotten used to eating non-processed food, so maybe quitting the ice cream won’t be that hard.
TheSnackHound — I bet they’re zero points. I love eating something that’s considered “0,” like some Progresso soups. Gotta bump up my veggies, though. I have a real problem with eating a balanced diet, which got me into this mess in the first place.
carol at A Second Cup — Sure is. Although I was eying up some Oreos yesterday at the store. Can’t bring them into the house or it’s all over.
The Hawg! — Technically, I guess I could eat a dozen of them every day. And don’t think I haven’t thought about it.
Melissa — On WW, I’m not counting calories, just points, which helps me not feel so stressed out about numbers. And, for the record, it is working when I’m being good. And I’ve skipped dinner when I know I overdid it during the day. The trick is to watch my daytime snacking. Curses to the candy dish at work!
Jenny — Well, I think that’s it for the ice cream. Do I have the strength to eat just one a day, though, until they’re gone? Help me!
Lee — Yes, there is more to the story. I’ve fallen off the wagon this week, but today I begin anew. I didn’t lose anything last week, but it really does work if I’m as careful as I should be. Wish me luck.
DrowseyMonkey — I know you and your sister have been doing well and I’m rooting for you both! Honestly, we’d go insane without one snack a day, right? I think you’re doing better than me because you’re going to meetings. I’m only following the points system. I may need to really join. Going to meetings would make me honest.
Shadowsrider — I thought you were going to lecture me about apples. But I think what you got there was candy with a little apple in it. Awesome.
Data Entry Services — And that’s the problem. I’ve been up and down with my weight over the years. I’m capable of losing a lot, but then I gain it back. I don’t know. We’re in good company. Isn’t it something like 80% of people who lose weight gain it all back. Depressing odds, no?
KFJ — Funny, yes. But why am I crying?
trench — It’s a disease.

Okay Kathy, I’ll give you some encouragement. Last Thanksgiving, I was pushing 350lbs. (That’s being nice)
At the gym on Sunday I weighed 228 1/2.
I can eat pretty much whatever I want, just not very much of it. My stomach was reduced to the size of an egg, from that of a football. I have to eat 5 or 6 times a day.
It may only be a cup of yogurt with Kelloggs’s bar crunched up inside, and I eat a lot of soup, (Which I love!) but I’m used to it now. Had a checkup October 7th, 9 months after bypass, I’ve lost over 130 pounds, and I visit the gym3 to 4 times a week. My weight has actually plateaued, but they would like me to lose another 30pounds over the next 6 months. You get used to the lifestyle.
Oh, did I mention they constrict your esophagus to about the diameter of a dime? You have to thoroughly chew your food, or bad thing happen.
Having said all that, it saved my life.
Now have a weight watchers ice cream (or two, or three, or four!) for me! LOL!

mommyto2 — My record is 4 in one day. I’m not proud of it. Just sayin’
Bella Casa — You’re so much better off!
Bucky — I hope to no longer have a collection. Seriously, I’ve got to stop.
Lee — Thanks so much. I really need someone to watch over me.
1stopmom — Yeah, but 2 points times 5 is a problem. I swear, I’m on my last box. I’m allowing myself one per day this week. Can’t quit cold turkey!
Data Entry Services — I’m part German. That’s good, yes?
Jenn — I noticed that myself. And also when junkfoodaholic comments. I think she stole my name.
Kimmy — Ah, you’ve been there!
Emma in China — And therein lies the problem. I need to find some balance. Pray for me.
robert bourne — When I eat them I think “It’s only two points. It’s almost one point. Hell, it’s like no points!”
Koe Whitton-Williams — Well, I have to admit the WW point system is easier for me than counting calories. It’s less work. If only I could stick with it. Glad my problem gave you a chuckle. You probably burned 10 calories!
Tiggy — You’re right. It did keep us from ordering a pizza and having it delivered. We are always so close to blowing the whole thing.
Chris (Casey) — I can understand why you went with the bypass. At some point, you realize you’ve tried everything else. I’m rooting for you. It must be very difficult to get used to a smaller stomach and not being able to eat a hearty portion of something. Go Chris!
Bruce — Whether I’m doing WW or not, it is always about portion control. But I have to say I haven’t been stuffed in three weeks. You know, that disgusting feeling after eating like there’s no tomorrow? It feels good to feel hunger again. For a long while, I ate so much, I didn’t know what a hunger pang was.
Karen C. — These are the ice cream bars with chocolate crumbly things on top. My husband bought the fudge bars, so if anything, I’ll switch to those. I still think I have to give them up entirely. I can’t be trusted.

Talk about a popular subject! I’ve lost 56# since April on WW. The problem with these one pointers is that if you eat two in a sitting they are equal to 3 points. Add up all the calories, fiber, and fat of two bars and run it through a calculator. Same thing for those chocolate cakes!
I don’t ever think I will be able to train myself to binge eat on celery and carrots.

YummY! — And I’ve been punishing myself ever since. Only had one last night. Yea for me!
Jaffer — And so Ronald the Mime was born and died in The Junk Drawer. Rest in peace, little man. We hardly knew ye.
Merrill Guice — Wow! 56 pounds?! I’m so impressed. Way to go. Yeah, I’d rather starve than eat carrots and celery. Unlike my husband. Keep up the good work!
Ron — Yes, don’t remind me. It was 10 points. The WW yummies are really good-tasting. Unlike most “diet” food. Something about the chocolate. So rich and creamy! I wish they weren’t so good, because then I wouldn’t be tempted. I’m weaning myself off them. I have only 5 left and I have to make them last the week.
TheSnackHound — I don’t doubt that. But they are only 150 calories, which doesn’t even count as a whole meal. And it makes me feel full. So whatever it is, it’s working. Magic soup!
Carla — I should have saved all the popsicle sticks and put them in a jar. Then I’d really see how many I’ve eaten since I discovered them. I don’t want to admit how many came before these.
Kirsten — I love everyone’s logic here!
Grandy — Don’t think I haven’t been tempted. I think I could eat 10 in a row without getting sick of them.
Natural — Um. I’ve kinda done that before. My reasoning is if I’m going to overdo dessert anyway, why make it worse with a protein and veggie?
