embarrassing August 16th, 2009Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick! Will you look at my glasses?
I know I’m not the only one with asymmetrical ears, but this is ridiculous.
Also, the left plastic nose protector thingy fell off a couple weeks ago.
And this is my only pair.
Stepping on them and repairing with duct tape should complete the dork look I’m apparently going for.
Stumble it!

Kathy, Mine normally look like this too. I have one ear higher then the other, and to make mattes worse my eyes aren’t level and my left eye is smaller then my right. You would think i look like sloth from goonies the way that all sounds LOL.

My Mommeh is sort of an OCD type, and if her glasses are not even, she will bend one of the arms. Then when the other arm doesn’t match exactly right, she will bend that arm. Then the other arm is too high, so she’ll bend that one back again. And on and on and on, usually until the glasses are broken beyond repair.

Hey Kathy, check out Zenni Optical for glasses that are of comparable quality to that of brick & mortar eyeglass stores but at a fraction of the price.
All you need is your vision prescription (complete with your pupil distance, which your eye doctor and/or his staff can easily measure) and an idea of the size & shape of the glasses you want. You can measure your existing glasses to get an idea of the lens & frame sizes then work from there.
By the way, the anti-glare coating is well worth the small added expense since you do a lot of work in front of a computer screen.

Melissa K — LMAO. Sorry. I feel the same way. I kind of wonder if my ears aren’t only uneven up/down, but also forward/back. My whole head’s misshapen, I think. Sloth. That’s rich.
Babs Beetle — Thank Jaffer for ’splaining it. Hmmm, how long have I had them? Maybe three years. I haven’t sat on them, but my fattest cat has. Not making things any better, huh?
Jaffer — Moms don’t have to know a lot of things, do they?
kwr221 (kristin) — Have you ever woken up and you can’t see because one lens is on your cheek and the other on your forehead? I thought so.
Sue — Funny. Um, yes. They are my “going outside” glasses, as well as my inside ones. If I did break my one and only pair, I could at least pop in a pair of contacts until I get them fixed. But lately I can’t stand wearing those. I do have a spare pair, but they’re 10 years old and missing an arm. Why do I keep them? Why do I do anything I do?
Puglette — I would love to have lasik surgery, but I’m so afraid of lasers in my eyes. There’s no way to test whether it’d work and how I would see, so I just go on dealing with stupid glasses. Good for you though!
DrowseyMonkey — I just jumped over to your blog and see that adorable picture of you with your shades on. Now I know why you think mine look normal.
Daisy the Curly Cat — I like that you share little secrets about your Mommeh on other people’s blogs. Does she know you’re commenting on your own out in the blogosphere? I’m so afraid to bend mine back into shape because they’ll break. I just know it! If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d go buy a couple more pair.
Dorothy Stahlnecker — I’ve been lucky not to scratch them, but there’s always a first time. And then I promise I’ll get new ones. They don’t look as bad on my head as they do here. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Jen — Ouch! I know we’re not the only misaligned ear people out there. Thankfully it’s not noticeable to the naked eye. Again, what I keep telling myself.
Rob O. — Thanks for the link. I think I’ve heard of them through a “Spending Smart” column in our local paper. I’d love to spend less than $100 for glasses. They’re really expensive at my doctor’s office. A lot less at Walmart, which is where I got these. My doctor prefers I buy from him. Wonder why.
Di — Is that all?
Eric S. — What’s really embarrassing is that I constantly readjust throughout the day. I sometimes forget how crooked they look if I’m not careful. God. I need help.
Barb — A dorky diva! And I agree. I pretty much don’t care anymore. I used to be a little more vain, which is why I wore contacts for years. But they dry my eyes out and I still need to wear reading glasses for up-close work, so what’s the point?
Sherry — Oh, please tell me you’re kidding. You’re kidding, right?

shift happens. i will always love my crooked glasses. hey do you want to go in on a two for one sale at jcpenney’s. actually i need a few pair before my vacation next month. darn things are so expensive, it’s almost cheaper to get a seeing eye dog.

OMG…look out I’ve found you again. Just in time too. My glasses are just like that. We payed almost $400 bucks for them and at least once every other month or so the little screws fall out.
I have never had so many problems in my life with a pair of glasses. I don’t care what they say to me when I go back in for my next check up.
I m taking my old Sophia Loren large glasses and just have the lenses replaced. i don’t care if they are out of style. They are big enough to hide my wrinkles when I am in the light and they never once broke.
See I brought you a bucket full of good news. It’s good to be back Kathy. I have missed your wonderful sense of humor!!

Funny, yesterday my daughter sat on mine to make then basically a twin of yours. Fortunately I was able to bend them back to somewhat normal. Not real critical though as I am good with the “dork look” with or without the glasses!
And Shinade – I had a pair like that and I got a little bottle of something called Lock Tight at the hardware store. The screws never came loose again.

Ouch. Although I have to admit at least yours are still somewhat functional. My husband is constantly taking his off and losing them around the house. Then the kids stand on them and break them.
Although his are rimless and apparently as fragile as a Faberge egg. I told him I’m going to make him wear a granny chain pretty soon since he’s constantly losing them or taking them off.
He is not cool with that idea.

RedRaider — All of a sudden I’m thankful I don’t have a hump on my back. Yep, things could always be worse.
nipsy — See, that’s the difference between you and me. I keep wearing them when I shouldn’t.
misspiggytoes — I wonder if that’s what people think happened to me. I’m constantly readjusting them on my face. Annoying!
Natural — Shift happens indeed. I’m sorry, but it made me laugh that your family mocks you. Don’t worry, mine does too. I think I’m going to head to Walmarts after I get my new prescription. I think they were only $60 or so. Penney’s sells glasses?
SiteInsights — Two words: Hate ‘em! I can’t seem to focus up close anymore while wearing my lenses. That means I have to wear my reading glasses on top of the contacts. At some point I figured I might as well just wear regular glasses and take them on and off.
Document Scanning Services — You kidding? God, you’re worse than me! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one moving in the slow lane.
Shinade — Welcome back!!! Yikes, 400 bucks?! I’d like to get that little plastic thing repaired because the metal part that remains scratches my nose. Of course, the way they look, I really need a whole new pair. Love the idea of giant Sophia Loren glasses. I could NOT pull those off. I would look like a bug. Good to see you back, Shinade!
Will — I’m so afraid to bend them back. With this being my only pair, I have to treat them gently. Ironic, isn’t it? They hardly look like I’ve treated them gently to this point, do they?
cardiogirl — I agree with your husband. The granny chain is barely a good look for a woman. I sometimes use one and it bothers me to add 20 years to my age. He should just do like my BIL does. He has about 10 pair. So when he loses a few, there’s always another set somewhere. They’re like disposable glasses to him.

Yeah, I’ve got a pair of new $555 glasses sitting in the drawer because they kinda look like that – a bug of some kind got between my eyelid and my glasses and stung me – I ripped the glasses off my head – and there you go – I should just walk to the eyeglass place and get them fixed but it’s just too much trouble especially since I have 2 old pair of glasses that work just fine…

By the way, you might be really surprised how much of a difference it can make to get your nosepads replaced about once every 4-5 months. They get kinda stiff and lose their ‘grippiness’ pretty quickly. A new set is a coupla bucks but can make your glasses fit like new again – no more sliding down your nose like old granny glasses.

IMBuzz Riches Bonus — I like how you make my eyeglass torture sound so good.
CatLadyLarew — LMAO. Jesus doesn’t do the pogo stick very well in sandals. He falls a lot. Duct tape comes in colors other than gray and black? Where have I been?
BabaBooey — Big. And apparently misshapen and in the wrong place. Basically, Mrs. Potato Head.
Karen at Blazing Minds — I’d be inclined to say that’s why mine look the way they do, but I never sleep in them because I have ear pain when I lie on my side and the arm makes it hurt worse. Yes, I could get them fixed, but that involves making an appt and actually getting there. I really just want to send my head there so I can do other things while it’s waiting.
Lisa — OMG! Both pieces fell off? See, I feel like I’m only half a doofus because I still have one plastic thingy. Don’t they hurt your nose? Go! Go right now!
Grace — Oh for crying out loud, you’re worse than me. It pains me to know you have such an obviously nice pair hiding away in a drawer. If you go get yours fixed, I’ll get mine done. Agreed?
Rob O. — Can you just come over here and fix ‘em for me? You sound like you’re an expert and I’m not. And I’m lazy. Do you live on the east coast?
kathryn — I also thought they looked like something out of a Tim Burton film, no? Creepy!
Puglette — I envy you. I really do. But I’m too scared. Never happen.
MA Fat Woman — So you’re saying I can go a while yet? I’m guessing the only thing that’ll make me take them in is if a lens pops out. That’d be the end of them.
Jay — I’ve heard of those! Yes, I should look into that. I bet they’re insanely expensive though. So let’s recap: I’m lazy, I’m a dork and I’m cheap.

That isn’t too bad! You should take a look at my sunglasses. The inside of the bridge of the nose is now clear (the frames are brown), and a few weeks ago, I kept brushing my hair back to get it out of my face.
Only, I finally realized that I did not have hair in my face. I had three thin cracks running parallel to eachother in the middle of one lens, which led me to believe they were strands of my hair.
No, I have not replaced them yet.

Grace — That’s so funny you like the lenses and don’t care about the frames. The frame is all I care about. I have issues from how I looked as a second-grader in big ugly brown ones. Funky purple sounds awesome. Purple’s my new favorite color.
Shieldmaiden — You slay me. I like watching them fix glasses too. There’s a lady who works at my doctor’s who really works the machines. She’s been there forever. She’s scary and mean, but she can turn your glasses into like-new. So now all I have to do is get there. I hear ya on the OT. I’m surprised I could form whole sentences by the end of today.
Bobbi — Oh I would never lie. I’d totally be up front with them “I’m sorry. Just look at my head.”
JD at I Do Things — Hey, at least I’m not a square head like someone I know. You’re using glasses with a missing stem? Damn, girl. Get a new pair!
Ungirdled Passion — I’m thinking about those “flexy” kind that someone else mentioned. They can bend all they want and won’t break!
Chris at TheSnackHound — OK, so we’re all officially walking around like doofus’, eh? I bet I replace mine faster than you do. Care to wager?
Claremont Web Design — Yeah, right where my other ones are that I never wear because they’re missing an arm. Why do I keep them again?
muskrat — It’s always a mess in Kathyville.
Regan — Hurry up! Doesn’t school start in like a week?
LaTonya — In a way they are. I’m a little embarrassed now, since I wrote about them. Whenever I set them down on a client’s desk when I’m working with them, I’m afraid they’ll pity me and think I don’t have any money for new glasses and they’ll take up a collection for me.
Jenn Thorson — I’d much rather you take them in to get fixed. I’ll pay you. You wouldn’t mind driving 600 miles this way for it would you?

DJ — LOL. OK. So you’re admitting you have issues with your ears/head/glasses, or are you just trying to make me feel better?
flit — Har! That reminds me. My sister used to faint a lot as a teen. She’d go down like a ton of bricks. She wore glasses at that time and I don’t recall if she ruined any by landing on her face. I have to check.
Poetikat — Hey, lady! Good to see you again! Oh, I can never have that surgery. Too scary for me. I’d have to know in advance how things would turn out, and since that’s impossible, so is the surgery.
Karen — And all that does is make me scared that something else will happen to this pair and all I’ll have left is the pair with the missing arm and a prescription that’s ten years old. A few months ago I finally swallowed my pride and got new frames because my old ones had all the finish peeling off, the ragged finish was cutting my ears, and the lenses were so scratched I couldn’t see. I have one ear that’s higher than the other so the arms weren’t too far off from yours.
My new glasses have plastic frames. They don’t tell you until after you shell out $200 that you have to get them adjusted more than you do the metal ones because they’ll readjust on their own in the heat. I went back to the eye doctor every day for a week to get them adjusted. It was ridiculous, but at least I can go out in public in my glasses again.

Staci — Wow, 14 years is a long way to go with one pair. Do you know how lucky you are that they didn’t break in all that time? Thanks for the tip about plastic frames. I’m eyeglasses-clueless. When things settle down at work, I’ll go get a new pair. I’m afraid I’ll lose the second nose protector thing and then I’m in trouble.

I do not have glasses, BUT… my sunglasses always look that lop-sided! My husband always makes fun of me, so I’m glad I’m not the only one

Jac — Well, at least you only look crooked when the sun’s out.

Those are some haggard glasses. They look like they’ve already been stepped on though.

For whatever it’s worth, we recently blogged about our experience with buying glasses online. It’s a bit daunting at first, but the incredibly-low prices makes it easy to take a chance. Highly recommended!!
