Jen Hinton -- Thanks so much for the shoutout! I had to laugh when I realized you were sending people to me, a humor blogger, with one of the most depressing posts I've ever written on the front page.

carol at A Second Cup -- I heard murmurings about how blogging is dying because of Facebook and I said "never!" But it does make me wonder if that's where people are moving more and more.

Kim Wheedleton -- Aw, you're a good and sensitive Mom! p.s. I love your "More Signs of Life" post!

Kylia -- thanks.

Oh, I feel for you on the dress story. I had the opposite issue - bit of a late bloomer. But, remembering the oh! so many embarrassing moments from my own girlhood has made me much more conscious of my own daughter's feelings on similar issues.

And so true about fleshing out comments that could be potential blog fodder, instead. A thought - couldn't one do both? That is: go ahead and post the brief comment, because it's relevant, but then flesh out that thought into a great story, and post it on your own blog.

Great advice. All to often we spread the goods to those who do not appreciate for what it's really worth, like bloggers do!

Virginia -- Like always, when I got embarrassed as a child, I just stood there, internalized it, and tucked it away for three decades. I have to remember to drink more water when I'm loading up with fiber. I still have some tummy troubles when I eat too much.

Maureen -- You better watch out. Geakz has a patent on the five-point commenting system. He doesn't come around these parts too much anymore, so maybe you're OK. I notice you're not on Facebook very often, but you should be. FB needs more funny!

Free WoW Time -- Usually lessons that come from big mistakes I make. Just a warning. I'm dumbfounding.

tcc -- Just takes a second to pause and ask yourself "Would this make a good post for my blog?" Hoard a little!

Cromely -- That's interesting. Glad you decided to save your stuff for yourself. I find it's definitely a good idea to feed your posts through Facebook. It often sends people over to my blog the minute I have something new up. It's particularly helpful for people who like my What's That Wednesday posts and want to get their guesses in early. FB is the fastest place to find my new posts. What? No Mafia on Facebook? Seems like everyone's doing that.

jay -- It's the least she could do. Glad you're not giving all your good stuff away.

Lisa Alterity -- Please say you're kidding? What does a teenager know?

Shieldmaiden -- Yes, my dear. I know. Will you kindly break that habit? More people need to see your blog. OK, I'll shut up now. If I can get myself to mid-February without losing my mind, I think I can make it to spring intact. January is killing me.

Buggys - Commenting on others blogs is like a built-in writing prompt. In fact, I've taken note of what other people are writing about (browsing headlines) and seeing if I can latch onto something there when I've got writer's block, which is far too often these days.

lori lust -- I'm a hoarder!

Barb -- But you have a huge following! So, yes, keep all your greatest stuff there. I'm a huge Facebook fan. It's like blogging, but like you said, no pressure. It's hard to return every comment. I know the feeling.

Donalyn -- "drop the seeds".. perfect analogy! Thrifty is the way to go. It makes sense to hold onto he good stuff for yourself. Incidentally, I just started reusing plastic sandwich bags. Seems a shame to toss them where there's only a single crumb inside.

Walter -- I stopped submitting things to Associated Content for that reason. They paid lousy and I don't want them to get my Google juice.

bj -- Yep! That's the ticket!

Elizabeth Bolton -- I'm glad I have only one blog for that reason. It's a dumping ground for everything. I have no doubt I'll remember my embarrassment until the day I die. I read a friend's blog post about a kindergarten embarrassment she suffered. She's an adult now and never forgot the experience. It remains a deep-seated memory to this day. Shame.

Kevin N -- Please do!

Two really good points!

I blog on two sites - one my own, and one that's more of a networking site for my profession. It's sometimes a struggle to figure out which site to post about a particular idea. At this point the blog on the networking site is more of a community but that community won't build on my own blog if I keep the "good stuff" for the other site.

And childhood embarrassment can easily last into your eighties. I know my grandmother remembered a teacher's slight her entire life. It always amazed me how powerful a stray comment can be.

I admit it. I'm a recycler. I suppose it comes with my blog subject territory. But the best, most fleshed out version always goes on one of my blogs. Then the social sites and article sites get the reworked and simplified versions with a link back to the original.

I consider FB, Twitter, and comments on other blogs to be seed beds for my blog posts. I drop the seeds in and if they seem viable, I thriftly turn them into blog posts. I reuse ziplock bags too though, so I may not be someone to emulate.

I confess that I have gotten ideas for posts as I wrote comments!

My blog is more of a journal. I'm not really looking for "followers" as much as other people with whom I share common interests and values. I started it for me and it is still for me.

I do puffy heart Facebook, partly because it is a "No Pressure to Comment Zone". It's also a great way to exchange photos with family and quick updates, as we are all so busy and on different schedules as well as being scattered all across the country.

I love to do the posts for my blogs, but don't always have time to comment on my visitor's blogs. I actually pulled back my cats blog for a while and moved it to Wordpress because they got too darn popular. At that time they were getting about 60 commentors a day and I was feeling guilt, Guilt, GUILT if I couldn't return every comment. I try not to let it worry me now, especially while I'm trying to get this house remodeled so I can move into it!

OK. This could've been a post, right? hahahaha!

it makes sense although some social networks can still rank up pretty high in the search engines..your links back might not be followed but like you said its better to publish it on your own site.
