The Snow Thing
Bizarre February 27th, 2010Yeah.
I was all excited to build a snow bunny today. Wouldn’t that just be so much fun?
What I had in mind:
What I made:
I’ll take questions now.
Stumble it!

I’ve been following your blog for awhile now and never posted anything, but today I had to – that’s freakin’ hilarious!

You made a pink snow bunny? Do tell…
My mom and I once made a “snow pig”. Didn’t look much like a pig, or a man, but it was made of snow.
February 27th, 2010 at 11:11 am
What . . . the . . .
I think it’s the jaunty red scarf that makes me feel the most pity for this poor creature. A misguided attempt to make it look cheery. Please, I beg you. Put it out of its misery. It’s an abomination of nature!!!
February 27th, 2010 at 11:47 am
I love the first bunny–you had a great idea there! Too bad you couldn’t execute it. That pink blog doesn’t look like a bunny at all–maybe you should call it an alien instead. Oh, wait, I see you didn’t call it a bunny–your title says “thing.”

Beamer — Ha! I know I get a big fat “F” for execution, but I had a really good picture in my head. For the life of me, I just couldn’t get there.
Barb — Of course! OK, here’s the deal on the ears. Very quickly after I started, I realized there was no way to construct ears that wouldn’t break, much less ones that would stand up in the head. Since I still wanted it to have ears (as opposed to a boring hat), Mickey came in handy. I wanted the bunny to be pink. Despite how terribly everything else came out, I still insisted it be pink!
joan — Yes, I make cupcakes as well as I make snow bunnies. The pink is red food coloring diluted in a spray bottle. It was fun pinking it up. Closest I’ll get to doing graffiti.
Michele — Ah! I’m glad you liked it and came out of hiding. So freak snow things force you to comment? {makes note for future reference}.
Linda — Pink, yes. Bunny? Uh, not quite. But my heart was in the right place. I was an artiste until I realized it just looked like a blob. I almost kicked it over, but I had put in a lot of time to that point, fallen twice, and lost a shoe in the snow. I couldn’t give up!
JD at I Do Things — I know. What… the … is right. It does have an alien creature quality, doesn’t it? I do love the scarf that I bought in the dollar bin at the store today. Totally makes the whole ensemble.
Karen — Yeah, I couldn’t really get away with calling it anything but a “thing,” could I? I’m still proud of myself for doing it, despite the sad result. But don’t worry. It’s not like Windy. I can’t bear to give it a name because in a few days, it’ll be gone.
Tracy — It ’tis, isn’t it? Also reminded me of a sno-cone. Very fun spraying the pink on. One giant cherry slushy, comin’ right up!
BELLA — I know. The lips are a disaster. And who do you know who would actually DRAW lips on a piece of paper and then paper clip it to a snow thing? No one. I guarantee it. It’s an abomination, for sure.
Surfie — Ah, yes, watermelon is more like it. It was too light to be a cherry cone. BTW, it’s barely colored anymore. The dye melted and leaked inside of it. The whole thing is a bloody mess.
Grace — I wanted it to be a pink bunny. But as you can see, things went terribly wrong.
Sheila Sultani — Yes and yes.
Jen — I’m confused too. At some point, when I wanted to give up, I came inside and just started drawing on paper. I’m a lousy artist, obviously. Even the eyes were drawn on paper and stuck into the snow with paper clips. I defy you to find anyone besides a toddler who could make a worse snow thing. And even then….
Babs Beetle — Thanks! I got a good workout with it. Much harder than I thought it would be. Either that or I’m just that out of shape. I don’t know what IT is either. It’s just a thing. No shape, not identifiable features, save for a face. I shall put it out of its misery later in the week, if the sun doesn’t kill it first.
Nanny Goats — Yes, ma’am. Red dye. About 50 drops in a spray bottle of water. Going on, it did look a little blood splattery until I filled in some spots. Weird, weird, weird.
Lisa Alterity — Thanks, Lisa! My husband likes him, too. Also, my neighbor, who knocked on my door and handed me three prints he made of it. So now I can hang “it” on my fridge the rest of the year and remind myself in August how insane I was in February.

You really made that? I find it slightly disturbing! I think you should stick to blogging. Your real talent lies there. Seriously, I don’t find it disturbing. It’s cute in it’s own special way.
I also wanted to say that I like your post on seatbelts. I strongly believe in them. I was in a pretty bad car accident once. We hit black ice in Wisconsin in the middle of winter. The little, bitty sports car we were in hit an ollllddd police car. That car’s bumper barely budged, but the car we were in was totaled. I firmly believe that if I hadn’t been wearing my seatbelt, I would have been thrown through the windshield. As it was, I hit my head on both the window and the hatchback window. I won’t drive my car unless everyone in it is wearing a seatbelt. Even if the other person doesn’t like to wear their seatbelt. Wow. That was rambling. I’m tired. I can’t help it.

feefifoto – Oh, that’s awesome! Reminds me of the statue in “Lost.” There are no shoes to fit those feet.
carla — When you want some, you can’t have some. When you have too much, you can’t get rid of it.
Lynne — I’m glad you liked my “work of art.” Yes, that’s what I’m calling it.
Susan Montgomery — Ah, yes! Bottom heavy with a small head and no neck. I meant to do that.
puglette — I later removed the paper smile because it just felt wrong. Although the eyes are paper, too. I bet you couldn’t tell. I suppose the only worse thing I could have done was print out a giant paper snowman and stick that in the yard.
Will — Ha! Yesterday was very sunny and my little creation is already starting to melt into a blob. It sort of looks like a Hershey kiss. The snow around him is receding pretty quickly, too. He won’t last long. Pass me a tissue.
Janiss — Can you imagine how hurt I’d be if I genuinely thought this was any good?
Meesa — My husband used the word “cute” too. And, correction. It’s very disturbing. Thank you for sharing your seatbelt story. You were lucky and I’m glad you were buckled in. I’m sure you play that back in your mind and wonder “what if..?”
February 28th, 2010 at 5:44 am

It looks better than the snow people I made. It rarely snows in Atlanta so I didn’t have a lot of snowman supplies. I had to use pennies for eyes, birthday ribbon for how, and Dollar Tree fake shamwow’s for scarves. I think I used twigs for the mouth.
The point is to have fun doing it, right, even if your snowbunny ends up looking more like a fat Mickey Mouse.

In my part of Australia, Victoria, most of the state never, ever, gets snow. In spite of my adoration for snow, I think I can be pretty objective here.
Your choice of colouring – food colouring I’m assuming? – kind of makes the bunny look like it’s been bleeding… a lot. And it scares me. It’s toothy grin, so reminiscent of the Cheshire Cat, also scares me. The fact that it doesn’t have snow ears but Micky Mouse headband ears, PUSHED INTO IT’S HEAD, also scares me… a lot. The rest of it’s facial features, all black and shiny and beady, also scares me. The scarf is kind of cute though. >^-^<

Hi, guys! Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for all the comments and give you an update on Snow Thing. The head has melted off completely. The ears were laying near the bottom blob, wishing no doubt, that it had a head to rest upon.
I’m out of commission a bit, taking care of one of our kittehs who had dental surgery this week. He’s none too pleased and if I’m not careful, I”m pretty sure he’s going to lay on my face and smother me to death for what we’ve put him through. So if you don’t hear from me for a while, blame the cat.

What I dislike about snow sculptures, is that you put all that work and creativity in and then, in a few days, your hard work melts and goes down the gutter. A lot like life in a way, don’t you think?
