The Tiniest Woolly Mammoth
Fun May 31st, 2008The Junk Drawer is branching out. Not only are readers submitting photos of Food That Looks Like Stuff, now we have Stuff That Looks Like Stuff!
One of my dear, faithful readers, Babs of Beetle’s Memories ‘n Ramblings sent me this fluff of wool that she removed from a pair of slipper socks. She says when she set it aside, this little cutie revealed itself.
Now, here’s the question: What exactly does it look like to you? I see a moose. Babs sees “an elephant’s back half and a head with huge ears. It might be carrying something on its back.”
I’m sorry, folks. Not only do you need to look for food that resembles something. You’re going to have to examine everything you come in contact with during the day. You didn’t have anything better to do with your time, did you?
Babs, thank you for your submission! I’ll send you a Junk Drawer magnet if you’d like one.
And check out Babs’ other blogs if you’re looking for some new, fun places to visit:

It looks like a camel. With a little hump there. And an extraordinary long tail !
It’s been watched day (colour) and night (b&w) crossing a hot desert, and there’s mirages all over.

It’s a Fluff Mouse!
I love Babs’ Simplycats site.
And I love the new “Stuff that looks like stuff” theme!

I’ve decided that it could be a nice, friendly, prehistoric animal. It has to be friendly if it materialized from my slipper socks ;O)
Babs - beetle’s last blog post..What treasure hunt?

Babs: Well Camels are very docile and friendly. Except they don’t use a litter-box and they poop in large pellets.
May 31st, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Kind of looks like a baby aardvark to me, but what do I know?
May 31st, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I see a dog. But, thats because I’m partial to them. In the black and white photo I feel that you really can’t tell what planet its on. Yep, I said it.

Why, that is a cross between a pterodactyl and an elephant! In other words, a pterophant!
Great pic, Babs.

I see a little dog, but it COULD be an aardvark… or maybe a deformed anteater.
Why are we doing this, again? LOL!

- It looks like a dragon in the colour picture but it’s shadow looks like a dinosaur
- In the B&W picture it looks like a dinosaur but it’s shadow looks like a bald man crawling on his fours.
May 31st, 2008 at 5:51 pm
It’s definitely pre-historic, no doubt about it. How long had it been since she cleaned out those slippers anyway?

Jaffer — You have quite the vivid imagination. I love it! Yes, he’s got a hump and a very long tail. And pellets? Sure you don’t mean bowling balls? Also, I suggest you stop looking at the picture or you’ll be dreaming about a very weird Noah’s Ark tonight!
JD at I Do Things — I simply love Simplycats, too! It’s very well done. I’m a little scared now what the new theme might bring. Make sure you check your dryer for lint that looks like stuff!
Lee — I agree it looks aardvark-ish. You’re a photographer; I trust your eye!
Stephanie — You could get a dog out of it, especially that one big crooked ear.
Jenny — pterophant! Perfect!
Jay — I, too, later thought it looked a little like an ant eater. I see it in its snout in the B&W picture.
Babs (beetle) — See what you’ve done?! Thanks again for the fuzz. Now go clean off the rest of your shoes and see what else ya got!
DrowseyMonkey — As pre-historic animals go, he’s the cutest thing. I want one — only bigger!
KFJ — Of course! And you’re seeing the tail is part of the monkey, right? Yes, I see it!
May 31st, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Well in all fairness I think we should consider the possibility that this is an eledactyl, close cousin of the pterophant. We’d have to examine his bozzlewozzle (under a microscope) to be sure. Anyone? Anyone?

Ok. Work with me here. At first glance, I thought it was one of those little “Barrel of Monkey” monkeys, only tinier. And missing an arm. With really, really short legs.
Should I have viewed it with my glasses on?

Jenny — Do we have any paleontologists in the house?
tfa — Dude, you’re going to have to translate. Something about dancing on a bridge?
Don — Yes! Yes! It’s a Barrel of Monkeys monkey! Your vision is perfect. It’s exactly what I see! I loved that game, BTW. Haven’t thought of it in years.
Regan — Just tell me you’re not still using it and I’ll be OK with it.
June 1st, 2008 at 7:18 am
It’s a song we used to sing - I thought everyone knew it -something about on the bridge at Avignon…. yeah I know, enough already….

I have to agree with Regan. It does quite resemble the remnant of her beloved blankie, which actually evolved from a crocheted infant sweater. She used to put her arm through one sleeve and then suck her thumb. Look, Mom, no hands! Clever child, right from the start. Ooh, sorry! TMI!

I say it’s a half-camel, half-dog from a Tim Burton movie.
Maybe I don’t have enough productive things to occupy my time, but I can’t stop wondering where this little guy is sitting. On the hood of a car? On a picture frame? What size are we talking about here? I assume Babs has normal-sized feet, so something that sprang forth from her slipper socks couldn’t be too large.

tfa — You can leave French comments any time you want. Maybe it’ll help me to learn it. Neither audio tapes nor Rosetto Stone helped me.
ann of the shampoo bag — God. How many times do you think you washed that thing? Can’t believe she still has it.
Grizzly — I see Horton! He has that cartoony quality, doesn’t he? Thanks again for mentioning me in your blog and I’m so glad you enjoy my stuff. Good to see you here again!
Regan — Not if it disintegrates. There can’t be much left of it, can there?
Jeff — Just when I think I’ve read every possibility…. I don’t think that’s how they pee, though. But thanks to Jaffer, we know how they poop.
Carla — Yes, there’s definitely some Tim Burton in that. Something about its crooked-y limbs.
Babs — Thanks for ’splaining that. I love your cute slipper socks, BTW. Do they have traction, like shoes?
June 1st, 2008 at 4:59 pm
They have little rubbery dots on the sole for grip. They are great for the British cold weather ;O)

OK - A little late to the party perhaps, but none-the-less, I have arrived with my intellegent (ya,right!) perspective on this picture.
It’s clearly a Heinz 57 mutt lifting his LEFT back leg, to scratch his left ear. It’s so obvious…
@Kathy: BTW - Thanks for commenting on my blog!
@Babs: Great pic!
@Everyone: Thanks for the great suggestions. I have enjoyed reading your comments and ideas.

OutsideMyBrain — I love that sometimes these comments force me to Google stuff. I have never heard the term “Heinz 57″ to mean a mutt. Thank you for teaching me something new today! I’m not sure I see what you see, but that’s OK. I think we’re all seeing something completely different. Thanks for dropping by!
Bacner — Oh, finally! Someone agrees with me! Bless your heart.
BabaBooey — I’m not letting you in here anymore. Either that, or you have to pay a cover charge
Daisy the Curly Cat — Kinda, sorta, maybe: http://tinyurl.com/5hhcvz But, Daisy, I would think you’d love Dali! You’re so different than most cats!

Corrina — I’m starting to think it’s less of a moose (my first guess) than a camel. He’s growing on me!
Sue — You guessed it. Our spy activities are decidedly low-tech. Be careful around those lint balls. You never know who’s listening.
BabaBooey — Now, see, I wondered how I could make money on this blog! For you, you can pay me in coffee.
Forest Parks — And a woolly one at that! Babs should have saved him. He’s got fans now!
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:40 am
Kathy:
Babs happen to accidentally capture a rare, albino, African Hyena. They’re usually not found as far north as England, but global warming is causing a mass animal migration all across the globe. It’ scary.
Have a great day.

I’m going to call it a “dogvaark”. It has the ears of a dog and the tail of a dog, but that snout just makes me think of the old Ant and the Aardvaark cartoon that was on with The Pink Panther. Remember?

The Aries — Welcome aboard and thanks!
Poetikat — Wow! I remember that!!! Here’s a trip down memory lane, for those of you who don’t remember them by name. You’ll know it as soon as you see it.

Sarah — It’s a dogel, or is it a camedog?
Babs (beetle) — Next time, you must save these things for posterity. Of course, it’ll always be alive and well in the blog for as long as I run this thing. No worries.

June 4th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Lauren — The ears look as big as its head. I see you’re a cat person. Sadie is adorable!
Babs — It is, and I never would have remembered that old Pink Panther cartoon had Kat not mentioned it. That was a fun memory!
Jaffer — They certainly don’t. I don’t know where to find Bugs Bunny aired anymore. Thank God for YouTube.
jeflin — I never thought we’d get so many guesses for this thing. If Babs cleans her slippers again, who knows what else we might have to examine.
Nancy — OMG! It’s NOT crazy. It took me a second or two, but I see it! That little white space on the left is the opening between the monkey’s right arm and the hat. Incredible!
