Fun November 1st, 2007Always on the lookout for offbeat blogs, I stumbled onto one that pays tribute to the very best of the worst mailboxes. Yes, mailboxes. Check out UglyMailbox and thank God you don’t live in those neighborhoods.
While out and about today, Dave managed to catch a glimmer of a fairly hideous one that I could submit to the site. I’m not sure it’ll make the grade, but we think it scores pretty high on the ugly scale. I’ve never seen a mailbox with fish hooks on it, or eyes, for that matter. Truly awful.

Manatee mailboxes were very popular in our neighborhood in Florida. In California it was cacti, and my dad made his own out of plastic pipes he painted green. It did not resemble a cactus.

I’m pretty sure your entry would qualify, that’s one hideous mailbox.
I’m always surprised by how many “specialty” blogs there are out there. Who’d a thunk there would be one about mailboxes?

@ Marie — Well, at least HE knew it was a cactus!
@ Jeff — Thanks, I do hope it’s hideous enough. The only problem with finding sites like this is it makes driving that much more stressful. I’m now looking for unnecessary quotation marks, misused apostrophes, curious signs and ugly mailboxes, all great specialty blogs that take submissions. I’m see an accident in my future.

Hmm. I have a basic black one attached to the house. I can stay inside and lean out to grab the mail.
I get that people want to express themselves, but that’s what designer socks are for, right?

Cardiogirl — We have a black mailbox with grapes on it. Pretty simple. I, too, lean out to pickup mail. But it’s out the window of my car, the lazy butt I am 🙂

In rural Australia, ugly mailboxes are a long established art form. The fish would fit right in, and I doubt anybody would even take notice of it.
