Poindexter in a Dress
embarrassing January 31st, 2008
Today scientists uncovered what Poindexter would have looked like if he was a girl. Fact: If I was a boy, I would have been beat up a LOT.
I think I argued that I actually wanted those glasses when my mother objected. I insisted that brown went with my eyes.
It’s all about the shoes: I remember these shoes as the most fabulous pair that existed in 1973. Why? Because you could remove the blue dots snap-on thing that went over the toe and wear red ones if you were feeling a little “night on the town.” I recall having great difficulty choosing between blue and red for my Holy Communion. You know, because all the church-going paparazzi were going to be there.
What’s the verdict? Cute or scary?

I say cute. Those shoes sound pretty interesting. Maybe that company could make something like that now for adults. I’d have a lot more room in my closet that way. 🙂

Aw, cute, definitely! I never had shoes like that… 🙁
So what was it; devilish-red or sky-blue??? 😉 I can just imagine what my mother would have said; neither! All white, and make sure I wear a hat or scarf on my head…or I wouldn’t be allowed into the church. Geez. No wonder I’m not religious anymore – I just couldn’t believe that God would punish me for not covering my head.

Maureen — I picked blue. If you click to enlarge the picture, you can just make that out. 12 years of catholic school, 12 years of weekly masses at school. If I forgot my veil, I had to wear a tissue on my head. Not kidding.

ann of the shampoo bag — I know! Considering I had to wear a longish grade school uniform, this is quite a diversion.
Jaffer — Sadly, for me, I thought the glasses were attractive. One year I had clear frames. I doubt I can find a picture of that. Those were no better.

BigNerd — Between the tap shoes and short dress, I should have broken out into song and dance right there on the altar!
Margaret — I’m sure some nun had a problem with the short dress. They were always checking for modesty.
Gizmo and Cardiogirl — I’ll accept “cute,” but after having looked at this picture for the last 10 min., I wish I had taken off my glasses for the shot. Then I would have really ratcheted up the cute factor!

You were cute, and the swan is there struggling to get out. The nuns must have been having a really good day considering how short that dress is. Now I know how you progressed to that outfit you wore on the charity walk! 😀

The verdict? Oddly similar to my own First Communion pictures. (Knee-his and a dress above the knees, which my kids told me looked inappropriate for church going purposes. Maybe I should be taking them to church more often? So they can see what kids are actually wearing in church these days?)

I threw all of my yearbooks out a long time ago. And I am very glad I did. Now if I could just get rid of all the old pictures of me at my parent’s house. But then again, I do like pulling out the one of my sister. Muuuhaaaahhaaahhaaa!!

I empathize– I really do. If I had a copy of it, I’d share with you my 6th grade school photo to make you feel better. Mousy straight hair tucked severely behind my ears… Glasses big enough to see farther than the Hubble telescope… And I was really happy with this look at the time.
Also to console you– I bet those shoes WERE snappy among your peers!
I was unaware, however, that communion dresses came in micro-minis. 🙂
